Q. What are Gold Points?
A. Gold Points are a convenient, flexible and safe way to use your SJSU ID Card to purchase goods and services on the San Jose State University campus. Gold Points are pre-deposited dollars in an individual account, which is accessed by using your SJSU ID or VIP Gold Card.

Q. Why use Gold Points?
A. Gold Points transactions are much faster than purchases made with cash. No more fumbling for cash in the checkout line, no more pocket-full of change. In addition, Gold Points are more secure than cash. If you lose your SJSU ID Card and report it immediately, nobody will be able to access your account until you reactivate it.

Q. Who are Gold Points for?
A. Anyone with an SJSU ID or a VIP Gold Card may open a Gold Points account. If you are not a member of the SJSU Community, you can visit The Martin Luther King, Jr. Library or the Spartan Shops office to purchase a VIP Gold Card.

A. Gold Points can be used at the following locations on campus:
•  Spartan Bookstore
•  Student Union Food Court
•  Jamba Juice
•  Burger King
•  Subway
•  Sbarro
•  Market Café
•  Dining Commons
•  Village Market
•  On Fourth, a Novel Café
•  Public use Copiers and Printers in The Martin Luther King, Jr. Library
•  Campus public-use printers in the Career Center, Housing Computer Lab, Enrollment Services Computer Lab, Washington Square Hall Computer Lab, and the Science Computer Lab
•  Resident Hall Laundry Facilities

Q. How do I start my Gold Points account?
A. To get started you need only to add value to your account. Most students, faculty and staff are automatically set up to use Gold Points and just need to add value to their account. If you experience any difficulty adding Gold Points, either online or at a Card Value Center , you can:
•  Visit the Spartan Shops Office where you can pay with Cash, Check, or Credit Card (we accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover).
•  Visit the Dining Commons Office where you can pay with Cash, Check, or Credit Card.
•  Call the Gold Points office at (408) 924-1885 with a Credit Card.

Q. How do I add funds to my account?
A. Gold Points can be added:
•  By visiting the Spartan Shops Office where you can pay with Cash, Check, and Credit Card.
•  Online with a credit card (Visa or MasterCard only) at http://www.spartanshops.com/goldpoints
•  By visiting the Dining Commons Office where you can pay with Cash, Check, and Credit Card.
•  By calling the Gold Points office at (408) 924-1885 with a Credit Card.
•  Adding cash at the Card Value Centers in the King Library, Washington Square Hall Computer Lab, Campus Village Lobby, or in the Dining Commons.

Q . Can my parents call to add money to my Gold Points account?
A. Yes, parents may visit the above site or they can call the Gold Points office at (408) 924-1885 to add money to your ID card. They must have your SJSU ID card number.

Q. What is a Card Value Center (CVC)?
A. A Card Value Center (CVC) is a vending-type machine that can be used to add Gold Points to an existing account (either an SJSU ID Card or a VIP Gold Card) using cash, 24 hours a day.

Q. Can I add Gold Points to my Library Card?
A. No, Your library card is exclusively for checking out books.

Q. Do I need to get a new card to use Gold Points?
A. No, your Gold Points account is associated with your SJSU ID Card. Most new students automatically have their cards enabled for the account. If yours does not seem to work, just call us at (408) 924-1885.

Q. Do I pay a transaction fee each time I use my Gold Points?
A. No, there are no transaction fees for using Gold Points.

Q. Will I need a PIN code to use my Gold Points account?
A. No, there is no need for a PIN as your card will be swiped at each location. You must present your card at the time of the transaction. This adds to the security of the system.

Q. How do I check my balance?
A. You can check your balance in any of the following ways:
•  Ask a cashier at any of the Spartan Dining locations.
•  Inquire within the Spartan Shops Office.
•  Call the Spartan Shops Offices at (408) 924-1885.
•  You can also use a Card Value Center (CVC) to check your balance.

Q. Who can use my Gold Points?
A. Only the card owner is allowed to use the value on the card. Cards are not transferable.

Q. What happens to Gold Points in my account at the end of each semester?
A. The money on the account remains available for your entire SJSU tenure. However, accounts having no activity for two years are considered inactive and are subject to cancellation, with the balance refunded by check, less a $15.00 processing fee. Inactive accounts with a balance of $15.00 or less are forfeited.

Q. What's the difference between Gold Points and Dining Dollars?
A. Dining Dollars can only be used at dining locations and are included with your meal plan. Gold Points can be used at all dining locations as well as at Spartan Bookstore, for photocopying and printing, and for laundry services.

Q. What should I do if my SJSU ID card is lost/stolen?
A. If your SJSU ID Card is lost or stolen you should contact the Gold Points office immediately to have your account placed on hold to avoid unauthorized use. Further you need to visit Student Services to be issued a new SJSU ID Card. Afterward you will also need to visit the Gold Points office to have your new card activated. Only the new card can be used to access your account.

Q. I have more than one SJSU ID Card; can I use all of them?
A. Each card is coded differently and only one can be activated to access your account at any time. If your card does not work, visit the Gold Points office to activate it.

Q. Can I withdraw money from my Gold Points account?
A. Withdrawals are not permitted from your Gold Points account. In order to retrieve your remaining balance you will have to close the account. There is a $15.00 administrative fee to initiate this process.

A. All refunds are subject to a $15.00 administrative fee and a two weeks processing time. This fee will be deducted from the Customer's account balance prior to the issuance of a refund.
