The San José State University Faculty and Staff Homebuyer Program

The high cost of housing in California is increasingly having an impact on the success of the CSU to attract, hire and
retain quality faculty and staff. Because CSU campuses have different growth projections, land options and community
constraints, no one solution will work for the entire CSU. Homeownership is the most commonly stated goal by employees
in surveys. Assisting an employee in purchasing a home versus renting is the focus of the FSHP. The bottom line for
successful acquisition of a home is being able to qualify for financing. Down payment assistance is an ideal way to
mitigate the housing affordability dilemma faced by faculty and staff. It also allows for flexibility where homes are purchased,
taking into account neighborhood preferences, school districts, and public transportation options. This program encourages
homeownership in the City of San Jose so more employees live closer to San Jose State . This reduces commuting and the
resulting pollution.

The SJSU Faculty Staff Homeownership Program makes the dream of homeownership affordable to its most valuable asset,
faculty and staff.
